Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Is Triune a Methodist church?
Answer: No. It was founded as a United Methodist church in 1900, but it is now a non-denominational mission church to the homeless.
Question: Are Triune’s worship services only for the homeless?
Answer: No, we offer upbeat, vibrant services in which everyone is welcome. We see part of our mission as bringing affluent Christians face to face with the economically deprived. Homelessness is such a huge problem that it requires the efforts of all of us to eradicate it.
Question: Does the Triune Mercy Center have 501 (c) 3 status?
Answer: Yes. Our EIN is 20-0503624.
Question: Is Triune a soup kitchen?
Answer: No, Triune is a church that operates a weekend soup kitchen among its other ministries. In addition, one other ministry, Food for Life, serves dinner and holds Bible study in our building on Tuesday evenings.
Question: What services does Triune offer?
Answer: Worship, Sunday school, nursery and Bible study; an art room; four hot meals per week; adult and children’s clothes closets; weekend laundry services; Wednesday morning distribution of groceries, clothes and hygiene products; Narcotics Anonymous meetings, and Back Yard Mission Days to introduce churches to problems of the homeless.
Question: What is a Back Yard Mission Day, and how do I get my church involved?
Answer: A Back Yard Mission Day is available by reservation any Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday. Triune’s pastor leads the group through an orientation, hands-on work in a clothes closet or food pantry, lunch with parishioners, a bus tour of the homeless community surrounding Triune, and theological reflection. A member of Triune’s homeless or formerly homeless population will accompany us to answer questions. In return, the church group is asked for a love offering to support Triune’s ministries. Call Deb at 233-3402 to schedule.
Question: How is Triune funded?
Answer: Triune receives offerings and donations from individuals, churches and foundations. Our partner churches completely pay for, cook and serve the meals at our weekend soup kitchen. Our food pantry and clothes closets are stocked entirely with donations.
Question: Where are you?
Answer: Triune’s address is 222 Rutherford St., Greenville. It sits on the corner of Stone Avenue and Rutherford Street, next door to Tommy’s Country Ham House.
Question: How can I become involved?
Answer: Join us for 11 AM or 6 PM Sunday worship or reserve a Back Yard Mission Day. Either is a great way to get an overview of our operation. For more regular volunteer opportunities, call Renee Middleton at 233-8020, ext. 14.
Question: Can I serve meals at Triune?
Answer: Our faithful partner churches already have the meals scheduled months in advance. However, there are many other opportunities for service at Triune.
Question: I know that the Triune Mercy Center is a church. But what is Triune Chapel?
Answer: Triune Chapel is the beautiful sanctuary where we worship.
